The Father Who Calls Me His Own

2 Corinthians 6:18

“And I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.”

There is something deeply comforting about being wanted. At one point or another, most of us have wrestled with questions of belonging. We long to know that we are seen, valued, and loved – not because of what we can accomplish, but simply because of who we are. Whether those feelings come from painful relationships, disappointment, or uncertainty, they leave us searching for a place where we truly belong. That is why these words in 2 Corinthians 6:18 speak so powerfully to my heart: – they aren’t merely a promise of God’s protection – they are an invitation into relationship.

Every time I read this verse, I’m reminded that the God who created the universe doesn’t keep me at arm’s length. He welcomes me as His child. He calls me His own. My identity isn’t rooted in my past, my accomplishments, or my failures. It is rooted in the steadfast love of a Father whose affection never changes. His love isn’t earned through good behavior, nor is it lost when I stumble. It remains constant because it is grounded in His perfect character.

I often find myself trying to carry life’s burdens alone, believing I need to have everything figured out before coming to God. But that isn’t how a loving father desires his children to live. Our Heavenly Father invites us to come to Him with everything – our fears, our joys, our questions, and our heartaches. He is present in every season, celebrating with us in moments of joy and gently comforting us in times of sorrow. There is never a day when we outgrow our need for His fatherly care.

What brings me the greatest peace is knowing that I don’t have to earn my place in His family. Through Jesus, I have been adopted as God’s child. I already belong. What an incredible gift that is.

Today, if your heart feels weary or uncertain, rest in this beautiful promise. You are not forgotten, overlooked, or alone. You are a beloved son or daughter of the Lord Almighty. His arms are always open, His love never fails, and His invitation never expires.

You don’t have to search for a place to belong.

You already have one.
