Deserts and Gardens

2 Thessalonians 3:3

“But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.”

In the journey of life, we are faced by ever-changing seasons, some are like a desert where we face challenges and feel like there is no end in sight while others seem more like a garden overflowing with beauty and abundance.

As I reflect on my life, I think of periods when I entered the desert. The challenges I faced seemed insurmountable, and the answers I sought felt distant and obscured. However, it was during these times that my trust and dependence on God was refined. Like sand in a desert wind, my worries, fears, and doubts were stripped away, leaving only God’s voice to guide me. It was in these moments that I discovered that even in my weakness, when all hope seemed lost, God was strong and that His faithfulness was my lifeline. You see, the desert is not a place of abandonment, instead, it is where God kept watch over me, guiding me, and preparing me for all that I could not see.

In contrast, the periods when I entered the garden were filled with joy, creativity, and abundance. These are the times where I have celebrated God’s goodness and shared the overflow of His blessings. I have witnessed relationships thrive; opportunities bloom and felt an overall sense of joy in my life. But even in the garden, I was reminded to remain watchful and humble. While the garden may be a flourishing season is not a time to drift from God. For me it was a time to draw nearer to Him, cultivating gratitude and nurturing my walk with Him.

No matter what season I have found myself in, the desert, the garden, or somewhere in between, I realize that each season is not without its purpose and that I must seek God always. He is our constant, drawing us closer and teaching us to depend on Him in every moment.  2 Thessalonians 3:3 assures us that God is faithful. He will protect us from harm, guide our steps, and prepare us for the unique callings He has placed on our lives.

I do not know what season you are going through, but trust that it is an opportunity to grow closer to God. Embrace His promises, trusting that His love and faithfulness will endure through your highs and the lows. Trust that whatever you are facing today, God is using it to shape you for His greater purpose. Lean into His presence and rest in the certainty that He will never leave you or forsake you.
