Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
There have been seasons in my life when the weight of work and school pressed down so heavily that it felt as if I could never catch my breath. The endless assignments, deadlines, and responsibilities piled on until I was running on empty. In those moments, the enemy whispered lies into my heart: “You’re not doing enough. You’ll never measure up. You’re not good enough.” Those words cut deep, and the harder I tried to push through, the more exhausted and discouraged I became.
But then I heard Jesus’ voice breaking through the noise: “Come to me.” Not “work harder,” not “prove yourself,” but simply, “Come.” His invitation is not for the strongest or most accomplished—it’s for the weary, the overwhelmed, and the ones gasping for air. He knows that life’s burdens are real and that striving on our own strength will only wear us down.
When I come to Jesus, I remember that my worth is not defined by grades, productivity, or how many tasks I manage to complete. My worth is anchored in Him alone. He never asks me to carry the full weight of life on my shoulders; instead, He offers true rest for my soul. This rest goes far beyond physical relief—it is a deep, abiding peace that quiets the enemy’s lies and reassures me that in Christ, I am already enough.
The truth is, my identity is not rooted in what I achieve but in the One to whom I belong. Yet I am often my own harshest critic, setting unrealistic standards and feeling the need to prove myself over and over again. Even when no one else questions me, I still wrestle with the weight of my own doubts—wondering if I’ve done enough or become enough—and the enemy is quick to press those doubts deeper into my heart. But when I turn to Jesus, I’m reminded that I don’t have to prove myself to anyone, not even to myself, because in Him I am already fully known and fully loved.
Matthew 11:28 is a powerful reminder to release the weight of expectations, failures, and endless striving—to surrender the constant need to prove ourselves, to set down the burdens of this world, and to finally catch our breath in the true rest only Jesus provides.
