Psalm 147:3
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
There are wounds that others can see, and there are wounds hidden deep within the heart. The loss of a loved one, a broken relationship, disappointment, betrayal, loneliness, regret, or seasons of grief can leave us carrying pain that words often fail to express. Yet Psalm 147:3 offers a beautiful reminder: God sees every wound, and He cares for every broken heart.
What comforts me most about this verse is its tenderness. God is not described as rushing past our pain or demanding that we simply “move on.” Instead, He is pictured as a loving healer who gently tends to our wounds. Just as a physician carefully cleans and bandages an injury, our Heavenly Father patiently ministers to the places in our hearts that hurt the most.
Often, when we are hurting, we wonder if God sees us. We may pray through tears and feel as though heaven is silent. Yet this verse assures us that God is not distant from our suffering. He draws near to it. He knows every tear we have cried, every burden we have carried, and every ache we have hidden from others.
The healing God provides is not always immediate. Sometimes His work in our hearts takes time. Healing often comes one day, one prayer, and one step of faith at a time. In His wisdom, He gently restores what has been damaged, strengthening us through His presence and teaching us to depend on Him more deeply.
Perhaps one of the most beautiful truths in this verse is that God does not discard what is broken. The world often values what appears strong and successful, but God lovingly gathers the broken pieces of our lives and begins the work of restoration. He specializes in bringing beauty from ashes, hope from despair, and peace from pain.
If your heart feels heavy today, know that you do not have to carry that burden alone. Bring your wounds to the Lord. Bring Him your questions, your fears, your grief, and your disappointments. He welcomes them all.
The same hands that formed the stars are gentle enough to bind up a wounded heart. And the God who sees every tear is faithfully at work, bringing healing, comfort, and hope in ways you may not yet see.
