God-Versations

The other day, I found myself observing a seemingly ordinary moment—two women chatting enthusiastically about their lives. Their laughter and stories drew me in, though I was not part of their conversation. One woman spoke with excitement about discovering a few new restaurants with her husband. She described the ambiance of each place, the exquisite menus, the fabulous wine selections, and the irresistible desserts they had tried. Her happiness was infectious, her enthusiasm vivid.

When she finished, the second woman jumped in eagerly to share her newfound obsession with a streaming series. Her eyes lit up as she recounted what she called “the juicy details” of the show. She even admitted, with a mix of amusement and exasperation, that she had been waking up exhausted as she was unable to turn the series off at night because it was that good.

As I sat and listened to the two women, I noticed one thing was missing from their conversation…God. Despite their vibrant and animated conversation, while engaging, it left no room for the spiritual. There was no mention of gratitude, no reflection on faith, no acknowledgment of divine blessings or lessons. This realization caught me off guard. I began to wonder how often do I bring God into my own conversations? How often do I allow Him to be part of the moments I share with others?

Upon reflection, I realized that we often find it easy, natural even, to discuss the things that excite us or bring us instant happiness—whether it be a delectable meal, the latest binge-worthy series, or a remarkable gadget we have recently acquired. These tangible experiences bring happiness and we share them in effortless conversations with others. However, these worldly pleasures are fleeting, and we frequently overlook discussing the enduring joy that comes from God.

I began to ponder why is it that conversations about faith sometimes feel more challenging than talking about the latest trends? Is it fear of judgment, a reluctance to be vulnerable, or simply a habit of compartmentalizing our spiritual lives? Whatever the reason, this moment made me realize that I wanted to start changing the way I approach my daily interactions. I wanted to start having more “God-Versations.”

You are probably scratching your head right now wondering what I mean by God-Versations. Well, they are exactly what they sound like—conversations that include God. But don’t be mistaken, they’re not about preaching to others or forcing faith into every interaction. God-Versations are about naturally and meaningfully integrating our spiritual lives into our everyday dialogues. They’re about sharing the ways God is working in our lives as openly as we share about the new restaurant we just tried or the TV series we’re binge-watching.

I truly believe that there is something profoundly beautiful about sharing our faith with others. When we talk about God, we’re not just engaging in a conversation—we’re planting seeds of hope, encouragement, and love. We’re sharing glimpses of God’s grace that may resonate with someone else in ways we might never fully realize. And perhaps most importantly, we are nurturing our own faith by acknowledging and celebrating God’s presence in our lives.

I’ve found that when I open up about my spiritual journey, it deepens my relationships with those around me. It creates a space for vulnerability and trust, allowing me to share with others on a deeper level, replacing surface-level conversations. Having God-Versations requires and encourages me to pay closer attention to God’s presence in my own life. When I prepare to share my moments with others, I begin to notice them more vividly. The small blessings, the answered prayers, and even the challenges that shape my day suddenly feel more significant. Moreover, God-Versations help us reframe what’s worth sharing. Amidst a culture that often prioritizes the material and the fleeting, speaking about God reminds us what is truly important.

As I continued to reflect on the women’s conversation, I realized that I don’t want my faith to be a side note in my life. I want it to be the foundation that shapes everything else, including my interactions with others. I want to talk about God as freely and joyfully as I talk about my favorite book or a new restaurant.

I invite you to step into a new way of sharing. Let’s challenge ourselves to bring God into our daily dialogues. Not in a way that feels forced or performative, but in a way that feels genuine and life-giving. Let’s start having more God-Versations, and in doing so, let’s shine a light that draws others closer to Him. After all, what could be more fulfilling than sharing the love, grace, and goodness of our Creator?

How often in daily conversations, do you find yourself talking about what God has been doing in your life? Have you ever felt hesitant to bring up your faith in conversations, and if so, what do you think holds you back? What are some practical ways you could start naturally integrating God-Versations into your interactions? What steps can you take to cultivate a habit of noticing God’s blessings in your daily life, so they naturally become part of your dialogue? Please share in the comments.
