Psalm 143:8
“Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.”
There is something sacred about the quiet moments of the morning. Before the noise of the day begins, before responsibilities press in, there is a small window where the heart is still and the soul can listen. In those early moments, when the world has not yet fully awakened, it becomes easier to notice the gentle presence of God and the quiet reassurance that He is near.
In Psalm 143:8, David’s words reveal a posture of dependence. He does not begin his day relying on his own wisdom or strength. Instead, he asks to hear of God’s unfailing love. This is not merely information – it is reassurance. The soul wakes up each morning needing to be reminded again that it is loved, held, and not alone. God’s love is not distant or uncertain; it is faithful and steady, greeting us at the start of each new day.
Life often feels uncertain. We make plans, consider options, and try to foresee what lies ahead, yet the path forward is not always clear. I know that in my own personal life, I have often found myself asking God, “Show me the way I should go.” Sometimes that prayer comes quietly during morning reflection, and other times it rises from a place of confusion or weariness when the next step feels hidden.
David’s prayer reminds us that seeking God’s direction begins with trust. Guidance grows out of a heart that is willing to rely on God rather than on its own understanding. When we place our confidence in His character and goodness, we begin to find rest in the quiet assurance that He sees what we cannot. While we often see only the next step in front of us, God sees the entire path. He understands the road ahead long before we ever arrive there, and His wisdom gently leads us forward.
Placing our lives in God’s hands means letting go of the need to manage every detail and outcome on our own. It is a quiet decision to trust that His wisdom is greater than ours and that His direction is good. Even when His leading seems slow, gentle, or unclear at first, we can rest in knowing that He is still guiding us with care and faithfulness exactly where we need to be.
