Romans 15:13
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”
There is a quiet tenderness in this verse, like a gentle prayer spoken over the soul. It reminds us that hope is not something we have to manufacture or chase down – it is something God Himself gives. He is not just the giver of hope; He is the God of hope. And from Him, hope does not come in small, measured portions. It overflows.
This kind of hope is different from what the world offers. It is not dependent on circumstances going well or life unfolding as expected. Instead, it is rooted in something deeper – in believing. As we trust Him, even in small ways, something begins to settle within us. Joy and peace quietly take their place, not as fleeting emotions, but as steady companions. And from that place, hope begins to rise – not forced or strained, but natural and full.
There is something beautiful about the idea of abounding in hope. It speaks of more than enough. Not just getting by, not just holding on, but living from a place where hope spills over into every part of our lives. It touches our thoughts, softens our fears, and gently steadies our hearts. Even in uncertain seasons, this hope remains, because it is not anchored in what we see, but in who God is.
And we are not left to hold onto this hope on our own. It is by the power of the Holy Spirit that hope grows within us. Quietly, faithfully, He fills the places that feel empty and reminds us of what is true. When our strength feels thin or our perspective becomes clouded, His presence restores us. He doesn’t rush or overwhelm; He gently leads us back to a place of trust.
Sometimes, the invitation is simply to be filled again. To come honestly, just as we are, and allow God to meet us there. To believe, even if only in small, trembling ways, that He is still good, still present, still at work. And in that believing – joy and peace begin to return, and hope follows – rising slowly, steadily, until it overflows.
This is the kind of hope that carries us. Not loud or demanding, but deep and sustaining. A hope that does not run dry, because its source is endless.
