2 Corinthians 4:18
“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
This morning, I sat on the back porch with my coffee cupped in both hands, shivering slightly against the crisp air despite being wrapped in my blue and white fleece blanket. Before me, the lake, normally a smooth mirror reflecting the morning sky, was hidden beneath a drifting veil of fog. The soft light of the sun peeked through the trees, greeting me like a gentle embrace. For a moment, everything seemed to pause – still, quiet, and wrapped in mystery.
As I watched the fog move slowly across the water, I was reminded of how God moves in our lives. Sometimes His presence is gentle and almost unnoticeable, like the mist gliding over the lake’s surface – soft, quiet, and steady. Though we may not always see where He’s leading or understand what He’s doing, He is still there, shaping the unseen and guiding what lies beneath the surface.
Paul’s words from 2 Corinthians 4:18 came to mind, gently reminding me that faith invites us to look beyond what we can see. The fog became a tender reflection of that truth – how life often feels uncertain and our vision becomes clouded by what is immediately before us. Yet beyond that shifting veil lies something steady and sure: the unwavering reality of God’s presence and promises.
The fog reminded me how easily my attention settles on what feels urgent – the worries, the uncertainties, the things still unresolved. Yet, like the mist over the water, these moments are fleeting. They shift and fade with time. What endures, even when I cannot clearly see it, is the steadfast love and unchanging faithfulness of God.
As the morning sun climbed higher, its gentle warmth began to lift the mist. Little by little, the lake came back into view – steady and serene beneath the thinning fog. It had been there all along; my eyes just couldn’t see it yet. In the same way, God’s hand is never absent in our lives. His work is constant, quietly unfolding in ways we may not yet understand.
That quiet morning by the lake became a gentle invitation to trust—to rest in what I cannot yet see, confident that the light of Christ will always break through. Even when my view is clouded, His presence moves faithfully around me, like the fog over the water, until the day comes when all will be made clear in His light.
